History
This album kickstarted Ananda Shankar's career with his take on fusing Eastern, an Western music together for a unique blend. There are a couple of interesting covers on the album including The Rolling Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and The Doors' "Light My Fire". His profile continued to climb after the release of this album as he continued to experiment.
My Thoughts
This is a great way to start off the 70s! I wasn't sure I would like this album before listening, but as I continued through the album I found the unique take on songs very interesting. The first song was a lot of fun to listen to, and then when "Light My Fire" started I instantly recognized it but forgot who sung it. It was a good way to rehash some favorites, and listen to Shankar carry them out in his own way. It is very odd to relate Shankar to this, but with the way he blended music it sort of puts me in mind of Girl Talk, except well they are two completely different styles.
Rating 4 of 5.
