Music Review: Ken McAllister's Self Titled

In this fourth album release from Ken McAllister I found a pleasant collection of folk songs. Before listening I made several guesses about what I would be listening to, but when I started listening I found acoustic folk that I hadn't heard in so long. It was definitely the peaceful experience I needed.

For anyone like me who is working what they feel is all the time you need an escape, and I believe this album does provide that. McAllister recorded this album on a sail boat, and this album captures all the escapes he found while seeking solitude to devote to his art of music. There is a raw sound to this album that gives it a very real, and emotional feel.

Also, I like the cover art. I think it expands to the backstory to this album. I'm still pondering this album cover, and thinking about it along with listening to the music. I feel like all of this comes together to capture an unique artist sharing his work. Being from around the Athens area, this had such an Athens, Georgia music scene vibe to it.

If you're looking for a new unique artist to check out, I recommend Ken McAllister. Some notable listens for me were "Gladriver", and "Intentions". If you're wanting to check out this new album then be sure to pick up when it is released on July 3rd on Amazon, and other music places. You can also follow Ken McAllister at his website.
