Wednesday Movie Night: You've Got Mail (1998)
I wasn't sure what to expect from this rom-com. Would it be something light-hearted, and overly girly? Would it have an over the top scene of them finally meeting? The list goes on. Honestly, I liked the vibe this movie had. I didn't feel it was too cutesy, and you can't really judge it for the ending. Who would've wanted a sad ending?
I did enjoy the predictable hate between Joe, and Kathleen, while she was chatting with him online without realizing it. For some reason even those these two were in relationships they still seemed like lonely people in need of another's company, which is obvious from the fact they were online seeking some form of companionship in chat rooms. I hate to say, but if you are satisfied communication wise in other aspects of your life you don't seek that extra search to meet some of need of it.
Meg Ryan was charming at times, and I felt she brought something different to the table than other lead actresses in these ty//. Joe was likable, and over time Tom Hanks becomes an appealing cast for this character. You can't really see these two portrayed by anyone else after you are done watching the movie. I was so looking forward to their meeting by the end of the movie.
I didn't find this to be too overly girly like other rom coms. Meg Ryan keeps her character cool, calm, and collected without being too over the top. I liked the vibe of the film even though it starts out a tad slow. If you're looking for something to watch on your next date night then this would be a definite recommend.
