194 of 1001 Albums: The Carpenters' Close to You

History
Close to You generated two hits for The Carpenters, and landed them on Rolling Stones' list of Greatest Albums of All time. Their single "Close to You" was what garnered international attention for them. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts, and even made a splash on the U.K. charts. The album received mostly positive reviews, but did get some negative attention too.

My Thoughts
Though the Carpenters aren't my usual style I thought it was cool to listen to a band whose song I've heard often, but couldn't have placed the singers of. "Close to You" is quite a familiar classic. The songs are slow pop songs, so at the end of the day they made a good listen. Upon seeing the cover I thought I was going to be listening to the Osmonds. Anyways, the band is a good listen, and staple of the time. It has that 70s sound, so that was a nice change. The lead female singer, Karen Carpenter, also has a really good voice.

Rating 3 of 5.
